Raiders Will Continue To Prepare For the Season Despite the Lockout

The Raiders look like they are headed in the right direction. No matter how short the season is, when the NFL lockout finally does come to end the Oakland Raiders look like they are ready to take the next step. As a team they look like they are ready to turn over a new leaf of great work ethic and come into it with a winning attitude.

About two weeks ago the Raiders as a team headed to Georgia, with no coaches, but with great team leaders, they team got together. In workouts organized and paid for by the team’s it veteran defense end Richard Seymour and quarterback Jason Campbell they have been one of just a handful of teams getting in regular workouts. Approximately thirty teammates showed up for the four day workout that included training in a pool, as well as on the field. This might have really been one of the most impressive team workouts this offseason, as the vets also employed an entire coaching staff of their own to lead them.

The lockout still shows no signs of ending soon so what’s in store for a team that wants to get back to the winning attitude. The previous workouts were organized by Seymour and on top of the cost of the workouts, he footed the travel expenses for several of the players to get to Atlanta and participate. After all, not all players are top notch and have multi-million dollar contracts. No, star cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha was not there, due to his status with the Raiders now being a free agent. The absence of Asomugha aside, it was a very good turnout, and a productive team workout particularly when it comes to building great team chemistry, individual character and most of all comraderie.

The Raiders were even able to get a scrimmage in against other NFL players, as they hosted Matt Ryan, Ike Taylor, James Farrior, BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Santonio Holmes among others during their workout session. Another workout possibly in July (depending on the lockout status) is in the works.

Wide Receiver Louis Murphy tweeted “Should be one coming up in July”.

Wow, what a transformation of one team that just two years ago seemed completely dysfunctional, and was an annual lock for a top 5 or 10 pick. The Raiders look to be headed in the right direction.
