Matt Flynn traded to Raiders

Jay Galzer of Fox Sports has just reported that the Seattle Seahawks have traded back-up QB Matt Flynn to the Oakland Raiders..  Oakland will give up late round picks in the 2014 & 2015 NFL Draft..  Flynn was beaten out of the Seahawks starting QB job by Russell Wilson after signing a $26 Million deal before the start of the 2012 season.

With the signing of Flynn as the new possible starter in Oakland, it seems that Carson Palmer’s days are numbered as a Raider.   There is heavy speculation that Oakland is interested in trading draft picks with the Arizona  Cardinals for Palmer.

Raider’s GM Reggie McKenzie is familiar with Flynn from their days together in Green Bay. More importantly, Flynn was scheduled to make less than half of what Palmer was set to earn in 2013.  Oakland reportedly is  looking to re-do Flynn’s contract, which would pay out $11.5 million to him over the next two years.

Flynn has only two career starts under his belt, both with the Packers.  He was brought to Seattle last offseason as the favorite to start, but rookie Russell Wilson beat him out in training camp. Now Flynn will face more competition, this time from third-year-pro Terrelle Pryor..

Flynn is entering his 6th year in the NFL, spending most of his years in Green Bay.  In his 2 starts there, he threw for over 700 years, making him the darling of last years free agency.. He is 27 years old, 6’2″ 225lbs and play his collegiate ball at LSU.
