Raiders Win Second Straight; Pound Chiefs 26-16 at Arrowhead

Last week the Raiders had to scramble for a comeback win over the Jaguars. Sunday, they made sure not to have to follow that script again on the road in Kansas City.

Led by Carson Palmer‘s two touchdown passes, the Raiders pounded the AFC West rival Chiefs 26-16 for their first road win since last December. Where was that win? The same place it was Sunday – Arrowhead Stadium.

Palmer was 14-for-28 with 209 yards and an interception while Denarius Moore and Darrius Heyward-Bey each caught a touchdown for the Raiders (3-4), who have won two straight. Darren McFadden carried the ball 29 times for 114 yards and added four catches for 23 yards.

“Our guys kept fighting and kept battling,” Raiders coach Dennis Allen said. “We made enough plays at the end of the day to win the game.”

Sebastian Janikowski was perfect on four field-goal attempts, and the Raiders nearly became the third straight team to keep the Kansas City offense out of the end zone.

The Chiefs got their lone touchdown on Dexter McCluster‘s catch with 2:27 left in the game.

”It took us a while to get it going, but once it finally got going, we finished the game out well,” McFadden said. ”We feel like with our offense, you just have to stick with it.”

Palmer had the help of an offensive line Sunday that kept him clean the entire day.

”I thought he managed the game really well and had tremendous poise,” Allen said. ”We still have a lot of things to get cleaned up, but the good thing is that we are able to make those corrections after a win.”

Oakland has won four of the last five games against Kansas City, and six straight in Kansas City.

Sunday the Raiders are at home to host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

  1. John R. LoRe, Ph.D. says:

Can’t believe the pass protection, Excellent! WR’s dropped a bunch of balls, but it seemed each of our receivers made at least one excellent play. (Wouldn’t mind returning to Oaktown with Dwayne Bowe, though). Marcel was MIA (from the game plan?) Pat Lee is stepping up, Huff. Matt were playing well. Mr Branch played an all-pro game, as did most of the D-Line. Our run stuffers were on it, minus a few missed tackles. Excellent effort overall, 3 sacks (!). We shall see if these guys are truly starting to gel come Sunday!
