Raiders Deal WR Murphy to the Panthers

The Raiders Monday traded WR Louis Murphy to the Panthers.

Oakland will get a conditional draft pick according to the Sac Bee. Murphy was a fourth-round pick in 2009, catching 75 passes for 1,130 yards and six touchdowns in his first two seasons.

Last year he had a groin injury and started just one game. He had 15 catches for 241 yards and became expendable when fifth-round pick Juron Criner and undrafted free agent Rod Streater passed him in offseason workouts.

This is the second trade between the Panthers and Raiders this offseason.

  1. John R. LoRe, Ph.D. says:

This was an excellent move by Reggie. I thought Louis had several lapses last year, to go with a couple of good plays. We clear some cap space, Louis gets a chance to prove himself elsewhere, and the the Panthers get a guy who still has potential. I am anxious to see what we do now with the 6.5 million worth of cap space. I know we still has two (?) draft picks to sign, but it seems that Benson is back into the discussion. If someone said we traded Murphy for Benson, we would all stand up and cheer!
