Raiders GM Search Begins With Packers McKenzie

For the Oakland Raiders it seems ineveitable that along with the passing of legendary owner Al Davis, and his son Mark Davis’s subsequent takeover will come a search for the right GM to take the team to new heights.

The search will continue Wednesday when Packers’ director of football operations Reggie McKenzie will interview in Oakland. It would seem that McKenzie has a leg up on any other candidates, as ProFootballTalk subtly points out, in observing how ex-Packers GM Ron Wolf who is currently leading the search is “strongly advocating” for McKenzie, who will bring Wolf’s son Eliot (current Green Bay assistant director of player personnel) along with him to the interview.

Coach Hue Jackson’s personnel power would be limited, which should be music to the ears of most fans of the Silver and Black.

McKenzie is also viewed as the front runner for the Bears’ open position however, so he won’t come without a fight. McKenzie is a former linebacker that played for the Los Angeles Raiders from 1985 to 1988 and has been with the Packers organization since 1994. Hiring McKenzie, 48, would be the first major move for Oakland this off-season.

The history of the Raiders has been a one man show, this hiring will be the start to getting the team back on the right track.
