Richard Seymour Fined $15G for Below the Knees Hit on Schaub

Raiders defensive lineman Richard Seymour was fined $15,000 for hitting Texans quarterback Matt Schaub below the knees last Sunday, CSN Bay Area reports.

Seymour was flagged for the play, which occurred with one minute to play in the Raiders’ 25-20 win.

A pair of first-quarter penalties in Week 4 — an unnecessary roughness and face mask — drew a pair of $7,500 fines last week. The $30,000 in fines is about 28 percent of Seymour’s two game checks ($53,529 per week) over that stretch. Few would have sympathy for Seymour, who received a $14.09 million signing bonus from the Raiders in August.

  1. Tom Winters says:

The fine seems wildly excessive. It looked to me like Seymour was blocked to the ground right at Schaub’s feet and he kind of just reached out, grabbed Schaub a little above the ankles and bumped him to the ground. It looked like there was zero chance of Schaub being injured in the play. Thats how I remember it. Thats my story, and I am sticking with it.
