Raiders Place LB Ricky Brown on Injured Reserve

Raiders linebacker Ricky Brown has been placed on injured reserve with a concussion, Steve Corkran of the Contra Costa Times reports.

Signed by the Oakland Raiders as an undrafted free agent out of Boston College in 2006, Brown has 102 tackles (21 on special teams) in 58 games over the last six seasons. Despite his undrafted status, Brown had played the two previous seasons for the Raiders under a “Second Round” restricted free agent tender.

Brown went to training camp with the New England Patriots, but was released and re-signed by the Raiders. Brown appeared in three games for the Raiders this season, but did not record any statistics before suffering a concussion in a win over the New York Jets.

Financially, being placed on injured reserve is a big blow for Brown, who had been earning a $685,000 base salary while on the active roster. According to a league source, Brown has a “split” contract, meaning he’ll be paid at a lower rate if he were placed on injured reserve. Instead of earning $40,294 each week,
Brown will make $20,764 per week.

Replacing Brown on the 53-man roster is first-year fullback Manase Tonga, which may speak to the availability, or lack thereof, of Marcel Reese on Sunday.
