Raiders Lose LB Travis Goethel

Raiders linebacker Travis Goethel will likely miss the 2011 season after tearing a ligament in his knee, Steve Corkran of the Contra Costa Times reports.

A sixth-round pick in 2010 out of Arizona State, Goethel totaled nine tackles (four on special teams) in eight games as a rookie.

Listed as the No. 2 middle linebacker on the Raiders’ training camp depth chart behind starter Rolando McClain, Goethel’s injury could prompt the club to ramp their pursuit of a veteran linebacker. Former Raider Kirk Morrison and former Seattle Seahawks middle linebacker Lofa Tatupu, who visited the Raiders earlier this month, are possibilities.

  1. Raiders Only says:

The only problem is that Morrison and Tatupu are both inside backers. We need someone to take over for Groves because he is way too soft and can not keep up with McClain and Wimbley! Keep in mine Keith Bulluck and Danny Clark (former Raider) are both available and both are OLB. I say we need a OLB and a MLB, remember we lost Ricky Brown to New England.
