WR Darrius Heyward-Bey Back On The Field Injury Free

Darrius Heyward-Bey is back in action for the Oakland Raiders, after the former first-round draft pick missed the first nine practices with an undisclosed injury, he worked his way into the fold on Monday and now he could see time in the preseason opener Thursday. According to Jerry McDonald of the Contra Costa Times, it’s not known what ailed the speedster, although he joked it was a toothache.

“I felt pretty good for the most part,” Heyward-Bey said. “I connected with (quarterback) Jason (Campbell) and it felt good.” First-year coach Hue Jackson said Heyward-Bey has looked good and obviously he wants to see more from the seventh overall pick of the 2009 draft. The Raiders need to get some serious production from the Maryland speedster in his third year, Heyward-Bey has only 35 receptions over his first two seasons for 490 yards and two touchdowns, that’s in 26 games of action.

I think that it is safe to say that DHB is not the player the Raiders thought he was. The team relies more on Louis Murphy and Jacoby Ford to move the chains and the speedster is often relegated to a role on special teams.
