Bennett and Cartwright Battle for a Backup RB Spot

A couple of guys are working for the backup running back job for the Raiders – that being Rock Cartwright and Michael Bennett. Both have been good so far, and it looks like it’s going to come down to one making the roster and one not.

Running backs Rock Cartwright and Michael Bennett aren’t guilty of getting caught up in the battle between Michael Bush and Darren McFadden for the starting running back spot. Their competition for the third spot gives them plenty to worry about. Raiders coach Tom Cable said he has been impressed by both Cartwright and Bennett as they fight for a spot on the 53-man roster.

“It’s a good battle,” Cable said. “They’re going neck-and-neck. They both have a little different style. Rock’s maybe a little more physical and Michael maybe a little quicker.” Yet, both are hungry, determined and experienced functioning under the pressure of making every snap, every block and every practice count. Such is the life of a backup running back. Cartwright, 5-foot-8 and 215 pounds, is in his ninth NFL season. Bennett, 5-9 and 205, is entering his 10th season. Both are hoping for another chance to show they have something left to offer.
