Heyward-Bey Seems Ready to make a Big Impact in 2010

Yahoo’s Raiders team report has an interesting piece on 2nd year WR Darrius Heyward-Bey, and how he was greatly improved at the teams recent camps and ready to make an impact in 2010:

The offseason improvement of wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey has been duly noted by the media covering the team on a regular basis, but apparently the Raiders wanted to make it clear regarding their expectations for the No. 7 overall pick of the 2009 draft.

So the club issued a press release detailing Al Davis’ history with identifying game-breaking wide receivers, noting, “The greatest wide receivers in professional football have passed through the portals of the Oakland Raiders or have been coached by Davis.”

Those listed—Lance Alworth (Davis was Alworth’s position coach with the San Diego Chargers), Cliff Branch, Willie Gault, Art Powell, Andre Rison, Warren Wells, Bob Chandler, Fred Biletnikoff, Jerry Rice, Tim Brown, James Lofton and Randy Moss.

Worth noting: the Oakland stops for Lofton and Moss were the low points of each player’s career.

Heyward-Bey “has put in time and energy to prepare for his second NFL campaign, when many of those named mentioned blossomed in professional football competition.”

Then came this: “The list of wide receivers should make any pundit or so-called expert think twice before putting any negativity on Heyward-Bey.”

So the media has been put on notice. And so has Heyward-Bey.
