Davis Still Unlikely to Hire a GM Despite Protest

From Pro Football Weekly:

Raiders fans are putting their minds and money together in an effort to persuade Al Davis to demote himself and hire a general manager with a billboard ad in close proximity to the team’s stadium that reads “Mr. Davis, do the right thing. Please hire a GM”, but we hear their efforts are not going to lead them closer to the desired outcome. Despite a series of failed free-agent signings and blunders in evaluating draft prospects, Davis has resisted the calls to remove himself as the organization’s chief decision maker and team insiders say he still has no interest in bringing in a personnel executive with any real authority.

There is an internal struggle going on within team headquarters, as Davis is a strong proponent of playing strictly man-to-man on “D,” while others would like the team to employ a more versatile scheme. Davis is said to have reprimanded the coaching staff when it has broken away from his preferred defensive style.

  1. Davis is more concerned about his ego, than he is about winning.
