Raider legends Tim Brown and Pat Swilling, and former Silver and Black assistant coaches Woodrow Lowe and John Robinson have been selected to the 2009 Football Bowl Subdivision Class for the College Football Hall of Fame, as announced by the National Football Foundation.
Brown is one of two former Heisman Trophy winners among the 16 inductees. The Raiders selected the former Notre Dame star sixth overall in the 1988 draft and Brown went on to be selected to nine Pro Bowls during a 16-year career with the Silver and Black. Brown finished his professional career as the Raiders’ all-time leader with 1,070 receptions and first on the organization’s list in both receiving yards (14,724) and touchdowns (99). He also set Raider single-season records for receptions (104) and receiving yards (1,408) during the 1997 campaign.
A two-time All-American at Notre Dame, Brown set a single-season program record with 1,937 all-purpose yards as a junior. In his senior season, he hauled in 39 catches and three touchdowns while being named consensus All-American, the Walter Camp Award winner and the Heisman Trophy recipient.
Swilling played three seasons for the Raiders, joining the Silver and Black from 1995-96 and returning in 1998. The Georgia Tech alum entered the NFL with the New Orleans Saints in 1985 before spending time with the Detroit Lions and finishing his career in Oakland. Swilling was named to five Pro Bowls in his pro career and garnered All-Conference honors with the Raiders in 1995.
