The Last 10 Years of the #7 Pick

The Oakland Tribune broke down the last 10 years of the #7 pick, which is what the Raiders have on Saturday:

What can the Raiders tell from a decade’s worth of No. 10 picks in the NFL draft?

Year Player Position College

1999 Champ Bailey Cornerback Georgia Developed into game’s top cover corner for Redskins and was a perennial Pro Bowler before injuries slowed him down.

2000 Thomas Jones Running back Virginia Picked by Arizona, he didn’t hit his stride until his fifth season, when he emerged as a front-line back for the Bears for three seasons and the New York Jets last season.

2001 Andre Carter Defensive end Cal Failed to materialize into a dominant pass rusher for the 49ers and has since moved on to the Redskins.

2002 Bryant McKinnie Offensive tackle Miami (Fla.) Picked by Vikings, has matured into one of league’s most consistent offensive tackles and was a worthwhile investment

2003 Byron Leftwich Quarterback Marshall Lost Jacksonville starting job to David Garrard in 2007 and now is a backup for Tampa Bay

2004 Roy Williams Wide receiver Texas Picked by Detroit, once-dominant receiver was traded to Dallas last season and is seeking to jump-start career.

2005 Troy Williamson Wide receiver South Carolina Was drafted to replace Randy Moss in Minnesota, but will be remembered as a huge bust.

2006 Michael Huff Safety Texas Played out of position first two seasons and delivered decent production. Benched by coach Tom Cable early last season.

2007 Adrian Peterson Running back Oklahoma Shined as a rookie with Minnesota and showed that he is an immense talent who has the ability to be one of the league’s best backs for many years.

2008 Sedrick Ellis Defensive tackle USC Failed to make much of an impact his rookie season, though Saints have high hopes for him in future years.
