The Raiders opened the Art Shell Era 2.0 with a Monday night game against the Chargers in 2006. And the Raiders were soundly trounced, foreshadowing what was to happen that season. Tom Cable’s first game without the interim label will be against the Chargers on Monday night and will likely be an indication of what’s to come for the Raiders in 2009.
The Raiders and Chiefs have finished at the bottom of the AFC West in 2007 and 2008. With both teams making coaching changes, a quick start is vital. The Raiders have struggled against the AFC West in recent years, but have won two of their last three games against the Chiefs.
The Raiders were probably happy to see the Broncos fire coach Mike Shanahan, who went 21-7 against the Silver and Black during his run in Denver. The Raiders are going to get their first look at new Broncos coach Josh McDaniels in Week 3.
