Raiders Release Veteran LB Robert Thomas

A league source tells us that the Raiders have released veteran linebacker Robert Thomas.

Thomas, a first-round pick of the Rams in 2002, signed with Oakland prior to the 2006 season. He appeared in every game but started none in 2006. The following year, he had 10 starts in 14 games.

This year, Thomas landed on injured reserve after two games.

Releasing Thomas from injured reserve saves the Raiders roughly $71,000 in base salary, if Thomas doesn’t file any injury grievance or if they prevail in any injury grievance he files.

After clearing waivers, Thomas will become an unrestricted free agent.
