Raiders fall to Pats 49-26 for 3rd straight loss

In his return to Oakland, New England WR Randy Moss pointed to his name on the back of his jersey after each of his two touchdown catches, acting as if he needed to introduce himself to the fans who never saw that kind of performance from him in his 2 years playing for the Raiders.  Moss caught 2 of New England QB Matt Cassel’s career high 4 touchdowns Sunday in Oakland as the New England Patriots downed the Oakland Raiders 49 to 26.  The win puts the Patriots at 9-5 and in a 3 way tie for first place in the AFC East along with Miami and the NY Jets.  The Raiders loss puts their record at 3-11 and worse yet, makes them the only team in NLF history to lose 11 games in six straight seasons.  Oakland fell behind 35-14 in less then 18 minutes into the game, and even though they did score 4 touchdowns, never battled for control of the game.

Also scoring for New England was former Raider LaMont Jordan who scored on a 49 yard run in the fourth quarter.  Said Jordan, ” We ( him & Moss ) came here together to wear the Oakland uniform and try to turn that program around.  It didn’t work, and we both left on bad terms. ”  New England started out fast, becoming the first team this season to score touchdowns on their first four offensive possessions.  Patriot QB Matt Cassel threw TD passes to Kevin Faulk, Moss, and Wes Walker, while RB Sammy Morris scored on a 29 yard TD run.  Ellis Hobbs returned a kick 95 yards for another score, giving New England five touchdowns in the first 17 minutes of the game..

Oakland trailed 21-0 before recording their initial first down.  Said coach Cable ” We had some issues with communication there in the first half, getting everything matched up.  We are not on the same page in terms of communication and that’s something we have to fix..”  After a  Justin Fargus 1 yard run on third and one was greeted by mock applause, the Raiders generated some real cheers on the next play when Raiders QB JaMarcus Russell hit Johnnie Lee Higgins on a 56 yard touchdown pass play for Oakland second offensive TD in the first half all season.  The Raider’s special teams played well again, and scored again when Justin Miller took a kick-off return the distance, going 91 yards for a Raider score.  The Oakland offense did show some flashes of what could have been this season, with JaMarcus hitting Ronald Curry for a 10 yard TD and the late in the fourth quarter, Rookie RB Darren McFadden scampered into the end-zone on an 11 yard TD run.  Said Russell after the game, ” It’s tough to tell the guys to keep fighting, just to keep pushing, that things are going to turn around.  Everybody looks at each other like, “When?” It’s really depressing..”  Russell did have a decent game, going 17 of 31 for 242 yards with 2 TD passes and one INT.  RB Justin Fargus contributed 70 yards on 15 carries, and McFadden had 46 rushing yards on 12 attempts, one touchdown, and added 68 yards on 3 receptions..

Next up for Oakland is another home game against the Houston Texans..
