Russell Struggling with Kiffin Gone

Russell
With Lane Kiffin getting canned a few weeks back, it appears that the development of quarterback JaMarcus Russell has taken a hit. The QB, who was starting to play well before Kiffin got fired, has clearly taken a few steps back in the past few weeks. Even in the teams win over the Jets, Russell didn’t play all that well.

In the last two losses to the Saints and Ravens, Russell has looked less confident, and much more off on a lot of his throws than before the bye week. Sunday vs the Ravens, Russell went 15-for-33 for 228 yards with a TD and a pick. He also was pressured quite a bit, and got sacked for a safety in the first quarter.

On the season, Russell has a QB rating of 74.4, and has thrown for 1258 yards and 6 TD’s and three picks. In the three games since Kiffin got fired, Russell has thrown for 590 yards (196.6 per game), two TD’s and two picks. In the four games with Kiffin, he threw for 668 yards (167 per game) with 4 TD’s and one interception.

So with Kiffin gone, the team has to think long term about having someone there to help out Russell. He does not look like the same QB, and seems to be rushing the ball more and forcing it in, which is maybe the reason he’s not playing as well. It’s a major concern for a young team that is set on Russell as their franchise QB for years to come.

I’ve been a Raider fan since the days of Daryl LaMonica, but it isn’t easy these days. It seems that what the team needs isn’t a new_____ (fill in your own position) but sometning old…Attitude. During the Madden years if you tuned into a raider game, you were sure to hear one of the commentators say, “It doesn’t matter who wins or looses. When you play the Raiders, you’re going to get beat up”. I don’t see that attitude any more. But that’s just my opinion
