Several rumors, including one from the Sacramento Bee, arose this week that Raiders QB JaMarcus Russell is tipping the scales at 300 pounds. The San Francisco Chronicle reported that two Raiders officials held that the rumors that Russell was near or over 300lbs and not training at the Raiders’ facilities are completely false.

An anonymous front-office employee said the false rumors were “ridiculous.” He said, “JaMarcus is nowhere near that. He’s been here. He’s been working out. He’s in great shape. That’s something everyone’s going to see at our first minicamp.”

Someone close to Russell said the 6′6″ quarterback is a lot closer to 260lbs. Last year’s first round draft choice is listed at 255 lbs on the Raiders website and he will be in the spot light much like Tennessee RB LenDale White was before 2006 for not being able to keep weight down before he earned his full time starting job for the Titans in 2007.
