Walker Signing an Answer to Prayer

Walker

My prayers have been answered! I must admit I did not want to make my wishes known that the Raiders would sign Javon Walker because I thought it would jinx the deal. Now I can rejoice and not fear the dreaded Raider curse.

According to ESPN Javon Walker has signed a 6-year, 55 Million-dollar contract on Tuesday night. Maybe Mr. Davis read my last posting or maybe Coach Kiffin finally talked some sense in to the old bird, either way there is a new wide receiver in town. I know Walker could be considered a bust while in Denver but I am a firm believer in the motivation of a professional athlete. He was cast aside by the Broncos and undoubtedly is carrying a chip on his shoulder and this plays perfectly in to the Raiders hands. Walker was by fare the most talented wide receiver left on the market, but there are some questions about his health. As a desperate Oakland fan I am willing look past his injuries in the hope that he can bounce back to his previous form.

At this point beggars can’t be choosers and it would have been nice to sign Bernard Berrian or even Donte Stallworth but if Oakland had missed out on this talent I would have considered this off-season a complete waste. Not that this move guarantees the Raiders 8 wins next season but it is a step in the right direction. Some might say the Walker is a Jerry Porter clone and isn’t much of an improvement. The problem is that Oakland needed to replace Porter and now they have, next they need to find a legitimate third receiver to complete the rebuilding of their receiving corps.
Now that this problem been addressed I can only hope that Coach Kiffin and Al Davis follow this announcement up with a clarification of their relationship. Oh great did I just say that out loud? Well here is to hoping that this wish falls on deaf ears.

Ok…Ok…Hold on before you blow your load. Here in the CO I’ve seen Walker play for the past two years, and yes when he’s healthy he’s probably in the top five receivers in the league, HOWEVER he just had his second knee surgery on the same knee. I’ll allow this deal, but I’m not holding my breathe. The Raiders should look to draft WR James Hardy or WR Devin Thomas in the second round to help with that number 3 position.

Which is exactly why I wrote this line, “The problem is that Oakland needed to replace Porter and now they have, next they need to find a legitimate third receiver to complete the rebuilding of their receiving corps”. Once Porter left town I knew that the Raiders needed get the best talent out there and Walker is, but that doesn’t mean that I am ready to say that the receiving corps is set to be the best in the west.
