Corner Asomugha Slapped with the Franchise Tag

In an expected move, the Raiders today put the franchise tag on corner Nnamdi Asomugha.  He will make at least $9.465 million in 2008 but expect he and the Raiders to keep the lines of communication open about a long-term deal.  Asomugha was the Raiders first round draft pick back in 2003, and had a huge 06, in which he picked off eight passes and by the end of the season was regarded as one of the top corners in the league.  Last season he had just one pick, but teams barley threw his way, knowing the type of corner that he had become.  It was the first time the Raiders had used the franchise tag since they slapped Charles Woodson with it in 2004 and 2005.
