According to “Oakland Tribune” NFL writer Jerry McDonald, the Raiders concluded their day-long interview with former wide receiver James Lofton yesterday for an undisclosed position. Raiders senior executive John Herrera had no announcements other than to say the interview went well and there could be a resolution in the next day or so. Lofton, who was fired last week as wide receivers coach for the San Diego Chargers, twice interviewed for the Raiders head coaching job with owner Al Davis. Yesterday’s interview was with head coach Lane Kiffin and offensive coordinator Greg Knapp. Whether the interview came at the request of Davis or Kiffin, is anyone’s guess. The relationship between owner and head coach has been a major topic of discussion among the Bay Area media the past few weeks. ESPN reported on Friday that Davis had drafted a letter of resignation for Kiffin and was looking to hire Dennis Green as a replacement.
