Davis Continues to Kill Raiders From Moving Ahead

It’s not a football team – it’s a soap opera.  That is all that the Oakland Raiders have become, and all this is due to one person: Al Davis.  Yes, the crypt keeper is at it again, this time the report is that Davis sent a letter to head coach Lane Kiffin, asking the coach to quit after just one season on the job.  Now mind you Davis and Kiffin have been at odds for several weeks over Kiffin wanting to dump defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, who Davis loves.  Now word is Davis is in love with the thought of firing Kiffin in favor of former Vikings and Cardinals coach Dennis Green.

If Davis loved Green so much, why didn’t he just hire him last season when he was first available after getting canned by the Cardinals?  And just what did Kiffin do that was so bad this season?  Yes, the team was still awful, going 4-12, but they did start 2-2, and in the middle of the season won games at KC and vs the Broncos, two teams that had been beating on the Raiders badly the past few years.

Kiffin had to put up with a fragile running back who in the middle of the year asked to be released (LaMont Jordan), and running back who began the year suspended (Dominick Rhodes), a first round draft pick that didn’t sign until after the second game of the season, QB’s that didn’t play all that well, and a run defense that was one of the worst, allowing 145.9 yards per game.

The bottom line if that Kiffin does not deserve to be in this situation, and Davis, per usual, is stopping the organization from making progress.  The Raiders are going nowhere fast, and it’s antics like what Davis is now pulling that is keeping them from getting there.
