Monte Kiffin Cuts Off Joining Lane in Oakland

Raiders head coach Lane Kiffin has squashed any rumors about him going to Oakland to be the D-coordinator for his son. The Raiders just fired Rob Ryan from his defensive coordinator spot, and are looking at who may be out there to take over the position. Monte told the Tampa Bay media on Wednesday – “Whatever happened in Oakland has nothing to do with me just because of the [last name] Kiffin. Believe me. I am totally concentrating on the New York Giants. I love the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I love Tampa. I love my son, but that doesn’t mean I don’t like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I really haven’t talked about it [with Lane]. I’ll be honest with you. I can’t tell you anything more than that. Somebody asked me a couple of weeks ago … what happened with Lane and his defensive staff you know – that’s Lane’s decision. Believe me, it’s not just the New York Giants or the playoffs. If the season were over right now I’d tell you the same thing. I’m focused on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It is true that I’m not under contract, but that’s a whole different deal.” So it appears that the Raiders are going to have to look elsewhere for a new coordinator. Don’t forget it was Monte that orginally was offered the head coaching spot last season before Al Davis went to son Lane.
