Raiders Look To Prepare For Green Bay Weather

Old-man winter is about to hit the Raiders this Sunday as they get set to battle the Green Bay Packers.  The forecast at Lambeau Field has a 30-percent chance of snow with temperatures only reaching the upper 20s.  Head coach Lane Kiffin said yesterday that his team will go outside the day before to get a “feel” for the conditions.  “I like going to cold weather.  I hope that it’s cold weather,” Kiffin said.

The Raiders are no strangers to playing in frigid conditions.  In an AFC playoff game on January 4th, 1981, the Raiders escaped a frozen Cleveland Stadium with a 14-12 victory over the Browns.  With under a minute remaining and Cleveland in field-goal range, head coach Sam Rutigliano instructed quarterback Brian Sipe to try for one final play (known as “Red Right 88”) into the end zone, but Mike Davis stepped in front of Ozzie Newsome for the interception.  The game-time temperature in Cleveland was plus-four-degrees with a wind-chill of minus-37.
