According to ESPN, the Oakland Raiders waived wide receiver Mike Williams yesterday and are close to signing wide receiver/return specialist Tim Dwight. The 23-year old Williams came to Oakland along with quarterback Josh McCown during a draft-day trade with the Detroit Lions. Williams, a first-round pick out of USC in 2005, had only seven receptions for 90 yards and no touchdowns this season. The final decision on Williams was most likely his fourth-down drop of a Daunte Culpepper pass late in Sunday’s loss to Tennessee that looked like it would’ve resulted in a first-down with 1:14 remaining. As for the 32-year old Dwight, he last played for the New York Jets in 2006 but was released in the final preseason cutdown. He’s perhaps best known for his 94-yard kickoff return for a touchdown during the Atlanta Falcons’ 34-19 loss to the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 33.
