Culpepper the Likely Starter Sunday in Miami

Culpepper

Signs with the silver and black seem to be pointing towards Daunte Culpepper starting at QB Sunday when the Raiders travel to Florida to play the Dolphins. Starter Josh McCown missed practice on Wednesday with his foot injury, and some reports are stating he has a broken toe on his left foot. Coach Lane Kiffin said he’ll wait till late in the week to decide on the starter, but based on what has been going on, Culpepper looks like the starter, while it may be rookie JaMarcus Russell being the backup.

The team continues to try and find a trading partner for 4th string QB Andrew Walter. The team will soon need to make a decision on what to do with Walter, and Kiffin said he and the QB have met a few times with updates on what is happening for his future. Walter was speculated to be on the trading block in camp, but then Russell held out over 40 days, which meant the team needed to keep Walter as a insurance policy. There are a few teams out there still looking for backups or teams with QB’s banged up that might take a look at Walter – like the Falcons, Lions and Rams.
