Russell Added To Raiders’ Roster

Russell throws

The Raiders officially added JaMarcus Russell to their roster yesterday, adding to an already crowded list of quarterbacks wearing the “Silver and Black.” The addition of Russell, who recently signed the biggest rookie contract in NFL history, was expected to be the end for last year’s starter Andrew Walter, but the Raiders instead released cornerback Duane Starks to make room on the 53-man roster. The “San Francisco Chronicle” reported that Walter was spared, for now, because quarterback Josh McCown is still suffering from a left foot injury and until the team knows how serious the situation is, they want Walter available as an emergency backup for Duante Culpepper. In his Monday news conference, head coach Lane Kiffin said “Josh’s injury right now isn’t clear enough. We need more information on it.”
