Oakland Raiders head coach Lane Kiffin was hospitalized yesterday with what the team reported as a viral infection. Kiffin was taken to Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa for observation and is expected to remain there until later this week. Raiders spokesman John Herrera told the “Oakland Tribune”, quote “We’re waiting to hear back when he’s ready to go.” Oakland offensive coordinator Greg Knapp added, “The illness is something he’s been battling for several days.” ESPN reported that the players were notified of Kiffin’s condition prior to Monday’s workout, though some weren’t even aware the head coach was missing until they took the field. At 31-years-old, Kiffin is the youngest head coach in modern NFL history. He replaced Art Shell, who was fired after a disasterous 2-and-14 season– the team’s worst in more than 40 years.
