TE Wakefield Suffers “Ugly” Leg Injury in Practice

Wakefield

Raiders TE Fred Wakefield sustained what is described an an “ugly” injury at camp on Monday.  He went down in a special teams drill with what looks to be a serious knee injury. The tight end was on the ground for several minutes, and new teammate Donovin Darius offered prayers.  Trainers put Wakefield’s leg in a splint as he was taken from the field on a motorized cart.  “It was a special teams drill and he went to cut back left inside the guy. Freak deal,” coach Lane Kiffin said. Wakefield is a former offensive and defensive linemen whose blocking skills gave him a shot at making the Raiders 53-man roster.  The team seemed to be counting on him as they already have released Courtney Anderson before training camp and later Randal Williams.
